Divine Ruins - Sign Of The Times

Debut album from a band fronted by Ronnie Stixx, lead singer for the British Power Metal band Shadow Keep [Limb Music]. Divine Ruins has influences from Dream Theater to Symphony X. Soaring vocals accompany progressive rock traditions. Ronnie Stixx and keyboardist, Charles Schultz are the primary song writers and the riffs are rich and memorable. The album is capped off with a cover of Iron Maiden's "Flight of Icarus." Ronnie Stixx will surely be one of the top new vocalists on the scene. Still available thru The End Records

Most of the members of this band are well schooled in music, thus making their CD full of complex parts, pulsing rhythms and well placed melodies. The solo sections are carefully thought out and each song is original in its own way. Powerful, soaring vocals compliment the incredible musicianship of this 70 mintute CD. Will Anderson and Rain de Leon provide a rock solid rhythm section that is the foundation for the clever tracks. Bassist Rain de Leon may very well be the best female bassist in Prog today. Look for Lyranthe to make a name for themselves in Progressive Metal with their debut CD.

Natural Science - This Side of Paradise

Natural Science is a hot new band that hails from The Netherlands, a hotbed of high quality Prog bands. This is a well thought out album with metal riffs and carefully placed piano interludes. Precision stop and start rhythms and memorable melody lines make this album unpredictable but yet easy to follow. Vocalist, Roy Wassink has an interesting voice with an impressive range. The lyrics are thought provoking and very well written to flow along with the rich and memorable melodies. The band is influenced by such bands as Pain of Salvation, Spocks Beard, Threshold and Royal Hunt, but is still very original. The CD is very well produced and mixed. Natural Science will surely cause a big stir in the Prog world with this release.
